Physician's assistant Kristīne Vanaga has received a Bachelor of Health Sciences degree in Nursing, a Professional Bachelor of Health Care degree and a Master of Education degree in Pedagogy. More than 20 years of experience working with outpatients and inpatients, mainly surgical and urological patients. Consults patients on a wide variety of healthcare issues, orders tests, examinations, refers them for consultations to relevant specialists, writes prescriptions and initiates appropriate therapy until the patient sees a specialist. Provides only paid services. For many years, she has also been visiting patients at home, where she performs a primary examination, orders and takes tests, performs a wide variety of dressings - from simple suture removal to complex dressings of trophic ulcers, bedsores, complicated fractures, etc., using both innovative solutions and training patients/patients' relatives to perform dressings themselves with available materials. Performs insertion and replacement of long-term urinary catheters, as well as epicystostomy replacement, including the first time with a special kit and string. Can prescribe and perform a variety of i/v systems depending on the patient's complaints and test results. Knows how to work with i/v catheters, CVK, PICC, porta catheters, and can also provide training, including on parenteral nutrition. Performs insertion/replacement of nasogastric tubes, can educate patients/patients' relatives on enteral nutrition. Also works as a lecturer at the Riga Red Cross Medical College, teaches clinical procedures, therefore sometimes works together with future physician assistants.
